CHERRY GASTRONOMIC ROUTE IN THE JERTE VALLEY
Although the first cherries began to be harvested in June, they are still expected to be available until the end of July, so you still have time to enjoy a very special route through the beautiful Jerte Valley.
The first thing you should know is that this valley owes its name to the Jerte River, a tributary of the Tagus, which flows through this impressive valley located in the north of the province of Cáceres. It is just over three hours from Madrid.
We are going to give some fun, educational and very tasty ideas of activities that we offer to our customers during the cherry gastronomic route.
One of the essential visits, in order to learn about the tradition and history of this juicy and colorful fruit, is the visit to the Cherry Museum which offers a tour during which you will discover the world of cherries in the Jerte Valley.
It should be noted that from the beginning of June to the beginning of August, during all weekends, a program of activities called “CERECERA” is organized.
You can't miss out on the most authentic, the collection which they call “red gold” in one of the cooperatives that celebrate open days.... is a unique opportunity to fill your basket and savor the tastiest and juiciest cherries, freshly picked! It is exhausting, but great to whet your appetite, so you can enjoy a special menu during the holidays. gastronomic days which are held in nine restaurants in different towns of the valley.
We really liked the cherry gazpacho and the fruit brochette with cherry bonbon at Alberjerte restaurant. A very rural place but delicious cuisine.
Here's a fact: from August 1 to 3, there will be a dtasting of exclusive and original tapas elaborated with cherries in different bars and restaurants. In addition, on August 8 in Barrado, from seven in the evening, there will be tastings, and a unique contest, “The search for the treasure of the pigs”.” and they will say goodbye to the CHERRY with music for everyone,
