Homemade and natural sweet popcorn with no added sugars
One of the sweetest and most enjoyable moments of my life was going to the movies and asking for a big bowl of freshly popped, warm caramel popcorn. The problem was, when they stopped making them and there were only cold or synthetic colored popcorns, so when I learned how to make these homemade and natural sweet popcorn with no added sugars I relived my moment again!
In addition, this popcorn is natural and free of sugars and refined fats, although it has calories of course, but at least it is healthy. Do you want to learn how to make it? They are ideal for movie theater sessions, birthday parties or as a snack for any celebration.
- 100 gr. of corn grains natural
- 100 gr. of dates
- Water
- 70 g maple syrup or honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla flavor
- 100 gr peanut butter
- Pinch of salt
- 50 gr of olive oil
STEP-BY-STEP PREPARATION:
- Leave the pitted dates to soak (covering them only) until they are soft. This will depend on how they are, so if they have been in the pantry for a long time, they will probably be very hard and you will have to leave them for a few hours.
- In a blender, put the dates with their water, the syrup or honey, the butter or peanut butter, the vanilla, 20 gr of olive oil and the pinch of salt. Beat until you obtain a homogeneous cream. If it is too thick, add a little more water.
- In a large saucepan, put the remaining olive oil, heat over high heat and before it starts to smoke, add the corn kernels and cover. Hold the lid with one hand and the handle of the pan with the other hand and move from one side to the other so that the kernels do not burn or get stuck to the bottom of the pan. You will immediately begin to hear the beans explode. You will have to remove from the fire when the time between one noise and the other has lengthened and is more than 3 seconds or when you barely hear the popcorn explode.
- Turn on the oven and preheat to 150ªc. Place the popcorn on a baking tray and pour the cream on top. With the help of a spatula spread it well all over the popcorn.
- Put the popcorn in the oven for about 15 minutes, until you see that they are toasted. Be careful not to burn them, as I always say that every oven is different!
- Let them warm up, you will see that when they cool down a little they will be even crunchier. They are now ready for our movie session!
I hope you liked these homemade and natural sweet popcorns with no added sugars, but be warned! if you eat one, you won't be able to stop:)
On my instagram @cocinayviajes I have left in stories the videos of how I made them. If you are late I leave them recorded in highlights.
