Catalonia has been declared European Region of Gastronomy 2016 ,a recognition that highlights the quality of its agri-food and tourism heritage and symbolizes the excellence of its products, cuisine and traditions.

CATALONIAThis distinction places Catalonia as a leading region in Europe in the field of food and tourism. The good work of Catalan producers, restaurants, schools, media, research centers, organizations and chefs has made this cuisine and its food products an international reference.

The European Region of Gastronomy is an initiative driven by a platform of European regions and managed by the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism. Awarded annually to two or three regions in the network, which together or separately, develop a strong program of events and collaborations.

Under the slogan “We are land, we are sea, we are gastronomy”, throughout this year, 2016, Catalonia will be able to enjoy a wide and diverse range of initiatives, such as quality food production and elaboration, fairs and markets, tourist routes and experiences, festivals and gastronomic campaigns and tastings of dishes prepared by cooking groups, among others.CATALUÑAA

The geographical features that make up Catalonia, mark, in part, the gastronomic culture of the country. But in addition to that, Catalonia has 50 restaurants with 60 Michelin stars. Among the most outstanding chefs, Ferrán Adría, Joan Roca, Carme Ruscalleda, Paco Pérez... among many other great chefs recognized worldwide.

A well-deserved award for Catalonia, which will now have greater visibility for the region in Europe and the world, in addition to reinforcing the country's identity as a territory rich in gastronomy, landscape and creative innovation.
