Ayurveda cooking class to balance our doshas

Yesterday I gave a Ayurveda cooking class to balance our doshas, a wonderful opportunity to introduce us to Ayurveda.

Although in one class you can't learn everything that is the Ayurvedic diet, if we can understand what it consists of and what it is intended to achieve.

Furthermore, Ayurveda is more than just a diet, and its concrete definition is ” A system of traditional and alternative medicine originating from the Indian subcontinent and the theory and practice of Ayuveda are pseudoscientific.”

According to Ayurveda, the universe is composed of five elements: air, fire, water, earth and ether. These elements are represented in human beings by three “.“doshas” or energies: Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

For an individual to have a good state of health, a complete balance of all our doshas is necessary and their imbalance causes disease.

But every human being has a different balance and his or her health and well-being depend on it. Because these five elements exist in us and also in nature, our doshas can be aggravated or unbalanced due to an insufficient or inadequate diet, the change of seasons, pollution, climate or an inadequate lifestyle (stress, bad habits, etc). Ayurvedic cooking is one of the tools we have in our hands to prevent diseases because thanks to it we can rebalance our doshas.

For this diet to be the correct one, we must adapt it to our constitution, since each individual has different needs and we must take advantage of the seasonal foods.

At the same time, herbs, spices, fresh and seasonal vegetables and fruits, legumes, cereals, butter and dairy products play a fundamental role in the Ayurvedic diet.

All of them collaborate in the maintenance of our physical harmony,Ayurveda cooking class to balance our doshas mental, spiritual and social. To maintain a balanced diet from an ayurvedic perspective, a meal should always include these foods.

The menu we prepared was:

Aperitiv0: eggplant and pumpkin mousse

First: beet cream.

Main dish: wok rice and lentils with curry and vegetables

Dessert: natural coconut yogurt with caramelized seeds, grapes and blueberries.

Together with a Ayurveda diet, yoga practice and meditation are the perfect allies to maintain the balance of our mind, body and spirit what we need in order to have a good health.
